Applications Technology (AppTek) is pleased to announce the return of Dr. Evgeny Matusov to its team as its Lead Science Architect of Machine Translation (MT). Matusov will work with Dr. Hermann Ney, Director of Science for AppTek, in leading its growing MT division, based in Aachen, Germany. In conjunction with this hire, AppTek has expanded its operations in Aachen, and has recently moved to a larger office in the historic city center near the Theaterplatz.
Most recently, Matusov held the position of Director of Machine Translation Research at eBay, where he developed machine translation and language generation models in multiple languages, powering eBay’s cross-border trade and structured data initiatives. Prior to that, Matusov was part of the machine translation science team at SAIC, and was recognized as an SAIC Technical Fellow for his achievements. Matusov has also previously worked at AppTek, where he led efforts to create AppTek’s own MT decoder and developing MT systems for multiple language pairs. His research focuses on the leveraging of phrase translation models in hybrid neural MT systems, topic adaptation, and translation into morphologically rich languages.
